The Australian wine industry owes a big debt of gratitude to the European settlers who introduced viticulture to our wide brown land. The diversity of our continent means Australian winemakers are spoilt for choice, with an enviable variety of climates, grape varieties and winemaking styles.
Australian winemakers benefit from the wisdom of our winemaking forefathers as well as the dynamism of contemporary influences. We aren’t stymied by the chains of traditions any longer, and we’re embracing this.
After 50 years making exceptional wines, Hungerford Hill are keen to embrace the exciting evolution of winemaking – not only in how we produce wine, but how people purchase it.
In the spirit of curiousity, we’re seizing the moment, calling in favours from our talented colleagues in sourcing the best grapes from around Australia for a unique collaboration of small batch wines.
Each producer has the liberty to interpret both established and emerging varieties and styles and we’ve picked the best of the best to compose straight varieties as well as sensuous blends. By crafting limited, small batch wines, we have the freedom to engage the blessings of each season’s climatic conditions and the nuances of each vintage, as well as our own stylistic interpretation.
For the first year, we’ve focused on sourcing from regions that we know intimately, reintroducing some old school winemaking techniques without being inhibited with expressing flair. We’ve employed a “less is more” approach, allowing the grapes to be the star.
