Hunter Valley Shiraz in its most simple form is a lovely, medium bodied red wine, however in its most complex mood it is a wine of wonderful mystique and allure. The terroir of our much varied region varies considerably throughout with the most suitable soils for Shiraz, the red volcanic ones producing wines of tremendous style and longevity in the bottle.
These cold nights of winter are an open invitation to open a bottle or two of Hunter Shiraz and almost wish it was this way all year round!
Our Collection Shiraz 2010 from Pokolbin is a wine from the complex genre from its lovely deep red colour with purple hues down to its long supple palate. Lifted aromas of cherry with a hint of background silky oak add a lovely touch to the nose. An abundance of bright fruit, rich raspberry and strawberry flavours along with dried spice and pepper components fill out the savoury palate. Medium bodied with soft tannins and balanced acid, this is a wine to enjoy now but will reward your patience with careful cellaring for at least another 5 years.
Enjoy with osso bucco, roast veal knuckle, pappardelle with forest mushrooms or a hearty brown lentil dhal.
